Nobu Hotel Shoreditch’s ‘Origami’ Christmas Tree

Fairly new to the Christmas tree game, having only opened earlier this year, Nobu Hotel Shoreditch still manage to impress – with their striking, innovative three metre tall ‘Origami’ Christmas tree. Designed by East London Origami artists Papershake, the tree combines elements from the ancient Japanese art of Origami with modern design techniques.

Handmade at Papershake’s nearby Hackney Wick studio, the tree is made using luxury ‘shoji’ paper, which is traditionally used to make Japanese screens. Multiple facets on the tree catch the light, creating a geometric array of light and shadow; it is also illuminated from within, refreshing the approach usually taken for a traditional Christmas tree.

Papershake’s use of natural materials mirrors the hotel’s design, which features heavily woven textiles in natural tones and shades of blue. The Origami Christmas tree is part of a series of events and celebrations that are taking place at Nobu Hotel Shoreditch over the festive season, proving the young hotel is definitely a place to visit if you’re looking for some Christmas spirit.
