Hotel Ease

Taking inspiration from 1920's New York city, ARTTA Concept Studio have designed and fitted out Hotel Ease with a stunningly elegant and stylish interior.

How were you commissioned?:
We were commissioned due to having previous experience in interior hotel design.

What was the brief from the client and how much were they involved?:
The client wanted the hotel designed in a grand, elegant and stylish style.

How did the brief affect the materials and design choices?:
We chose 1920's New York city as the inspiration for the hotel design giving it a classic and elegant ambience. A formal colour palette and sleek materials were adopted to give a professional style.

How did your previous experience help you with this project?:
We'd finished a hotel project - Hotel Cozi before, which gave us a wealth of  experience in maximising the efficient use of space in the hotel.

Can you explain the layout of the project:
The movement, Art Deco has a distinguished style of simple and clean lines with bold geometric forms. This can be seen on the lobby flooring; using black patterned marble arranged in handcrafted planks to create a dynamic look. Also furnished with paintings, bicycles, old fashioned suitcases and cameras for an authentic look and make the guests feel as though they have stepped back in time into the past New York City. An example of abstract in this interior can be seen behind the reception. The square frame decor is made of brass stainless steel – slim, straight and tough. A combination of delicacy and harshness to emphasis the professions of New York. The unique silver-grey timber veneer is the main wall-finishing that surrounds the interior, as it is visually shinny and carries the raw texture of wood grain, transforming the place into a high-end hotel. The hotel rooms are furnished with a combination of black, white and navy blue. A formal colour palette that can be associated with professionals to create a classic and elegant ambiance. The room numbers are designed in a unique font for a touch of Deco. Furthermore, The sink basin has been placed outside the bathroom and with in the bedroom so that it is convenient for the guests.

What problems or challenges did you face?:
As the lobby's ceiling is quite low, we have used bright lights and white walls to open up the space. A silver-grey timber veneer is the main wall finishing the hotel-its visually shiny and raw wood grain texture helps create a high end ambience. For the hotel rooms, the use of white marble against shades of navy blue and black helps enhance the sense of space.

What do you feel were the most unusual design elements of the project?:
The hotel rooms are modern, practical and family-friendly with a sink and separate bathrooms. Combination of black, white and navy blue, a formal colour palette that can be associated with professionals, is adopted to create a classic and elegant ambience in the room interior. The corridors on each floor have been turned into an art gallery, featuring works by local artists, as part of the hotel's support of art development.

How do you think this project is pushing design forward? What makes it special?:
The project has combined the classic style with modern simple style to give a stylish hotel, which can be easily associated with the old New York city.
