The world's best designed sports stadiums 2016

Emirates Stadium, London

Celebrating its tenth anniversary, the Emirates Stadium, based in North London, was designed by Populous back in 2006 and cost a cool £390 million.

Notable features include the joint largest pitch in England and special design features which are used to emphasise natural lighting throughout the stadium. The undulating roof canopy reveals a long lasting, profiled polycarbonate sheet which is suspended in an ellipse above the stands to provide maximum natural light, giving the stadium a much brighter feel in comparison to others.

The Emirates sits upon an immense 17 acre plot of land with the pitch area being 113m by 76m. There is over 60,000cu m of concrete used in the entire structure, which is enough to completely fill the area of the entire pitch to the height of a three-storey building.
