Design & Architecture: World’s 7 Best Metro Stations
Westfriedhof Station in Munich, Germany
Munich’s Westfriedhof Station, also known as U-Bahn, opened its doors in 1998 and was designed by Auer+Weber in collaboration with lighting designer, Ingo Maurer. Its biggest attribute, the 11 ‘light domes’ were added in 2001.
Each lamp, measuring 3.80 meters, casts colourful lights across the station including shades of blue, red and yellow light. The walls and ceilings of the station also cast a blue light while the rock-like surfaces give off a cave like feel.
