Menara Airport

Location: Marrakech, Morocco

Celebrating the ancient aesthetic of Islamic geometry, the Menara airport extension was completed in 2008 by E2A Architects and since has been featured prominently on airport architecture lists. By reinterpreting the area’s culture through modern materials and techniques, a structure was formed which featured a stunning façade.

Coated in white aluminium panels, light filters into the airport interior with a projection of lattice-work shadows; the level of light also changes, depending on the time of the day. The structure is formed of huge rhombuses, which were inspired by traditional motifs.
