University of Sheffield wins best student accommodation award

The University of Sheffield has won the award for Best Student Housing at the inaugural College and University Business Officers (CUBO) awards in Edinburgh.

The University of Sheffield’s student accommodation has transformed the student living experience, creating a balanced and inclusive community. The University started its £160 million Student Residences Strategy in 2005, with a vision to create over 4,000 new bedrooms and new social and event space within just four years.

The University of Sheffield Student Villages (Endcliffe and Ranmoor) are a combination of new build and refurbished properties, set within a landscape parkland setting which complement the surrounding buildings, many of which are Victorian. At the heart of the Villages are The Edge and The Ridge; brand new buildings designed to be the welfare, social and community focus for residents.

In addition to the popular Villages, The University of Sheffield also has accommodation near the city centre. Alumni funding allowed the creation of a Trim Trail and The Piazza that provides an outdoor focal point for local community events.

The University of Sheffield was the only university to be shortlisted for two awards and was also shortlisted for the Innovation Award for Excellence in Student Experience for their successful Communities project. It beat off tough competition from other Universities including the University of Edinburgh and Northumbria University.

CUBO awards recognise excellence in the student living experience.
