University of Florida Levin College of Law opens new green building

The University of Florida Levin College of Law in the US has opened the Martin H. Levin Advocacy Centre.

The property, sporting a curved glass foyer, has been designed by architect Sol J. Fleischman Jr. of the Tampa-based FleischmanGarcia firm. It spans 19,500 square feet and encompasses two floors. The facility has received LEED gold from the US Green Building Council owing to incorporation of various green features.

The eco-friendly elements include use of reflective building materials to reap energy cost cuts. The building has also been equipped with low-flow faucets, and waterless fixtures which reduce water consumption. Use of different sustainable features have helped cut down potable water usage by 55%, and have diverted 1.5 tonnes of construction waste water from reaching the landfills during the construction process.
