The timeline of the iPhone design

iPhone 7/7 Plus (Eleventh Generation)

Launched: September 2016

The iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, while aesthetically similar to the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus in terms of size and appearances, also features a lot of differences. The latest generation includes a pressure sensitive home button, improved camera (12MP sensor that's 60 per cent faster and 30 per cent more energy efficient), a faster processor and improved battery life (two hours extra per charge), plus the controversial talking point - no headphone jack.

Apple’s brave decision to remove the headphone jack means the phone will come with a pair of Lightning EarPods that connect through the charging port.  Customers can also choose to buy the wireless AirPods, which provide five hours of listening per charge. Infrared sensors detect when each pod is in an ear. Motion sensors control the headphones to use Siri, and can detect the consumer’s voice.

The 7 and 7 Plus is available in five different colours including a matte black and a glossy black to join silver, gold and rose gold. A long awaited design feature to finally arrive is the iPhone being water-resistant; an IPX67 rating which means the hardware can withstand immersion in up to 1 metre of water for 30 minutes.
