When architecture practice BuckleyGrayYeoman was commissioned to design a Dundee branch of Nandos - the South African chain of restaurants that specialises in Portuguese style peri-peri chicken - they used a diverse range of influences including original African art, graffiti, a 40ft-long shipping container that houses the kitchen and serving area chicken to express the varied culture and heritage of the Nando's brand.

Using shipping containers in this way may be trendy, but project architect Paul Thrush says that in this case inspiration actually came from his (and Nando's') native South African, where there's a tradition of small improvised restaurants and food stalls made from shipping containers. 'I thought back to my university days and I was thinking about the townships when they do it they take these containers and they drop them in the location and they open the up and make them bespoke for shops. They have hair dressers, telephone shops and restaurants. They will sell chicken and chips out of them.'
