Shangri-La Hotel, Colombo breaks ground


Hong Kong-based Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts has broken ground on a new hotel in Colombo, Sri Lanka.


The hotel, situated between the Galle Face green promenade and Beira Lake, will house a total of 661 rooms including 43 suites. The rooms will range in size from 484 square feet to 592 square feet while the suites range between 968 square feet to 2421 square feet. The facility will also offer glimpses of the Indian Ocean.

The hotel will incorporate a variety of restaurants including a sushi bar, steakhouse, seafood market, Indian restaurant, Islamic restaurant and a sky lounge on the building's top level. The all day dining area will feature the Straits Spice Market, a Szechuan and a Macanese restaurant. Other outlets include a take-out deli, Irish pub, tea lounge and wine/cigar room.

The facility will comprise more than 50,598 square feet of function area. The area will encompass three levels and will facilitate meetings, receptions as well as private events. It will also comprise a health club, and a spa featuring eight treatment rooms. Among its other features are an outdoor junior Olympic-size lap pool measuring 25 x 12 metres, as well as a pair of outdoor tennis courts.

The facility is slated to open by mid-2015.
