Redevelopment underway for Exeter Library in UK

Redevelopment work is underway for Exeter Library in the UK, which is being undertaken by Mansell on behalf of Devon County Council.

Modifying the existing structure built in 1965, the £3.7 million ($5.6 million) renovation will improve the versatility of the building.

The remodelling works involve the construction of a new entrance and lobby with café facility, which will open out onto an outdoor seating area within Rougemont Gardens. Creating an open plan learning environment, the refurbishment will also improve the use of natural light and natural ventilation with a new fenestration into the main façade.

Energy-efficient boilers will replace inefficient ship boilers and photovoltaic panels will be fitted to the roof as a source of renewable energy.

The renovation work started on the site in mid-March 2013 and is scheduled for completion in December 2013.
