Fashion and sportswear brand Ralph Lauren has created a special polo shirt which reads and records biological and physiological information that can then be downloaded to a smartphone, allowing the wearer to analyse their physical performance during sport.

The Ralph Lauren Polo Tech shirt is the brand's latest foray into the world of wearable technology, and works by using sensors knitted into its fabric to monitor activity, breathing and cardiac readings.

The technology is integrated 'seamlessly' into the garment, which is elegantly fitted and features the signature Ralph Lauren polo player in yellow.

The Polo Tech shirt was first seen in public at this year's US Open Tennis Championships, but according to it's makers it's not just for professional sportspeople: 'Our vision is that this will transcend sports to help us at every age and in every aspect of life. Reaching far beyond just the needs of elite athletes, Polo Tech will offer innovative technology for all ages and lifestyles to promote general wellness and quality of life,' David Lauren , senior vice president of advertising, marketing and corporate communications at Ralph Lauren.

The shirt was developed with proprietary technology from Canadian-based OMsignal, whose team includes experts in neuroscience, sports medicine and engineering.
