Rainbow Village: Indonesian Village Undergoes Colour Revival

From village slum to rainbow fantasy.

The Indonesian town of Kampung Pelangi has gone under an extreme makeover revealing beautifully coloured houses painted from the bottom up.

The village were able to do this large project with just 300 million Indonesia Rupiah equivalent to about £17,350, which the local government provided.

Its inspiration clearly comes from its ‘instgramability’ while other motivations come from similar work in other towns like Kampung Tridi in Malang and Kampung Kali Code in Yogayakarta. The brain behind the makeover goes to community leader and high school principal Slamet Widodo who pushed on for the project to move forward.

Each house is painted with a rainbow of colours including roofs, benches and bridges with a total of 230 houses painted thus far.

The Indonesian Builders Association has claimed that the village is now attracting local tourists as well as some international folk with an up rise in sales in both restaurants and local shops.

Local artists in the town have also painted their own murals making the town the perfect backdrop for the ultimate Instagram shot.
