Parkland Health & Hospital System has received the Dream Study Award from the Greater Dallas Planning Council for Parkland's new patient-centered health care campus masterplan in Dallas, Texas.

Parkland officials accepted the award at the council's Urban Design Awards reception on 8 December 2010. The Dream Study Award is given to projects that represent a significant achievement in urban design and, once completed, will be an asset to the Dallas community.

The new campus will be located on the northeast corner of Harry Hines Boulevard and Medical District Drive and is currently the largest new hospital construction project in the US. The $1.27 billion project includes an 862-bed hospital, outpatient clinics and support buildings that total 2.5 million square feet. The project is set to be completed in 2014.

The new Parkland hospital will be designed as a safe, welcoming, patient-centered healing environment that serves as a sustainable community resource for Dallas County. The new hospital will be designed and built in a thoughtful, deliberate, well-organized way. An ‘on-stage/off-stage’ model will provide comfort for the patients as well as efficiency for staff.

The entire hospital will be designed with the patient in mind. This patient-centered approach will create a healing environment with the use of single patient rooms, natural light and windows as well as more space for family and visitors. The facility will be adaptable.

The new Parkland will be a state-of-the-art teaching hospital, providing the best facilities available to both patients and staff. The facility will be sustainable, utilizing green building methods and energy sources as well as environmentally friendly building materials.

This is the second award in the past month recognizing the work done on the new health care campus. Azteca Enterprises recently received the 2010 Mega Deals Award from the Dallas/Fort Worth Minority Supplier Development Council for their work on the new Parkland.
