Joliet Junior College completes construction of JJC Campus Centre

The Joliet Junior College (JJC) in Joliet, Illinois, has completed construction of a new $42 million JJC Campus Centre.

The three-storey facility covers an area of 115,000 square feet and will serve as a link between JJC’s A and C buildings. It will feature a greenway in its front portion with an interior ring road. The first floor of the facility will comprise a long corridor of offices known as Student Street. The same floor will also consist services to facilitate the handicapped. The second floor of the centre will include the school’s library while the third floor will house administrative offices as well as the board of trustees meeting room. The facility will also incorporate a new cafeteria which will comprise a circular skylight to allow glimpses of its wooded areas in the western part. The cafe will also feature outdoor dining space. Further, the centre will possess open air stairwells.

The facility will include several sustainable features which include installation of solar panels, green roofs and a geothermal heating and cooling system. The systems will help the building run low on energy consumption.

Plans have also been undertaken to construct new buildings for automotive, natural sciences and health professions programmes in JJC. Further plans also include a 96,000 square feet City Centre Campus in downtown Joliet for facilitating hospitality, culinary arts and adult services programmes.
