Without doubt one of the most spectacular petrol stations in the world, this filling station in a newly urbanised area of the city of Batumi in Georgia, is also home to a branch of the fast food chain McDonald's.

Although the space is designed to stand out, it has also been carefully planned so that it takes up minimal space, leaving around it as much space as possible for recreational areas.

Another facet of the design is that it keeps the building's two main programmes - vehicle services and dining - separate, both physically and visually, so that customers in the restaurant do not look out onto the forecourt where others are filling up their cars.
