Desso teams up with Asthma UK

The carpet manufacturer has released a specially commissioned animated film by creative agency Young to highlight the effect of workplace dust on asthma sufferers

Carpet manufacturer Desso has launched an animated video which illustrates how its new product AirMaster works to reduce workplace dust, and so could help minimise its effects on asthma sufferers.

The animation, by creative studio Young, explains how dust in the workplace affects people with asthma and says that some 53,000,000 working days are lost to respiratory related illness each year in the UK alone.

According to Desso, the there is a popular misconception that hard floors are the best way to reduce workplace dust. Instead, the company says, AirMaster is up to eight time more affective than hard flooring at reduceing airbourne dust particles and four times more effective than standard carpet.

The hand-drawn animation visualises findings from a business-to-business survey conducted by Desso in partnership with Asthma UK to help bring a series of statistics around indoor air quality (IAQ) to life. Using simple hand drawn illustrations, it highlights how poor IAQ is closely linked with respiratory conditions such as asthma and what the potential health and business costs are of underestimating its impact - all in an easily digestible and engaging way.

Asthma affects 5.4 million people in the UK - 1 in 11 adults - and central to the initiative is a partnership with Asthma UK whereby Desso donates 0.5 per cent of the earnings from UK sales of its commercial carpet tile product DESSO AirMaster to the charity.

DESSO AirMaster is a patented product, which reduces the concentration of fine dust indoors eight times more effectively than hard flooring.
