Spectacular Grand Designs house selling for £2.3m
The kitchen area. Out of the floor to ceiling windows is the view of Lake Windermere
Gaukroger's initially intended for Dome house to become a large family home, drawing inspiration from Germany and Hong Kong. He felt passionate about the idea of three generations living under one roof but maintaining their own spaces, occupying the north wing year round while family could visit and stay in the south wing. Dome house was a large project, and upon completion the concept morphed into holiday accommodation.
One of the seven bedrooms with a bath in the corner and a table and chairs
Gaukroger and his wife Milla experienced months of painstaking construction to redevelop their dream home. Throughout the months of living on a construction site, the Gaukroger family including their two children, overcame various challenges including restricted hot water, limited space and moving to live in the safety of their caravan.
At the top of this image you can see the geodesic roof design, made with 160 pieces of wood and 20 nodes each weighing 20 pounds
Before Dome house is sold, guests will be able to experience the breathtaking views one last time during the summer. Sykes Holiday Cottages will manage the house as a single holiday home for rent (10 adults and four children) for weekly rental until a buyer is located.
This Lake Windermere house can provide the unique experience of living in a 'Best of' Grand Designs home.
Gaukroger is currently studying a RIBA part 2 MA at Central St Martins and their family will continue redeveloping, starting again near Canterbury.
