Wienerwald restaurant in Germany gets forest-inspired interiors

German design firm Ippolito Fleitz Group has designed the interiors of Wienerwald, a fast-food chicken restaurant in Munich, Germany, by incorporating tree motifs and forest graphics, evoking the scenic beauty of a forest.

The design was recently completed. The space is predominantly adorned with tree motifs and forest graphics, which cover some of the walls and windows. The use of brown and green evokes nature and the forest inside the fast food eatery. The redesign project was undertaken as part of the company’s rebranding efforts with Ippolito Fleitz Group.

The design group has employed materials such as wood, leather and textiles in the design in an attempt to translate high quality German cuisine into contemporary design expression. Materials and colours have been carefully selected to reflect the principles of freshness and naturalness. The space stands distinctively different with green tones that complement the fresh white. Gold shade has been used as an accent colour, referring the crisp, gold-coloured skin of the main product, the Wienerwald grilled chicken.

The space of the self-service restaurant has been designed to make navigation easier for customers. Order and payment terminals are housed at the far ends of the white, solid surface counter, and the chopping station is positioned in the middle. Installation of efficient ventilation and extraction system keeps the restaurant odourless.

On entering the restaurant, visitors are guided towards a frontally positioned counter, which presents itself as a clearly structured, monolithic unit. Menu boards suspended above the counter visualise the range of food on offer. The food has also been made visible through an indirectly illuminated niche in the rear wall of the service area. The wall is covered in anthracite mosaic stones, into which frameless, stainless steel units have been inserted. A neon green arrow in the centre of the rear wall indicates a hatch to the kitchen where fried chicken dishes are prepared.

The dining area features a variety of seating options such as, white solid surface high bar tables supported by a single leg with a tapering cylinder at its foot; and elongated seating group upholstered in brown, artificial leather.

One side of the wall is adorned with forest images in different shades of green. One wall has been designed as a display space for dining plates, highlighting Wienerwald company and its long tradition. The history of the brand is reflected in 14 motifs. The wall showcases an image of Friedrich Jahn, the brand’s founding father, and displays a photograph of the first Wienerwald restaurant.

The first Wienerwald restaurant was opened in 1955 and the Ippolito Fleitz Group have been commissioned to rebrand all the restaurants. The main responsibility of the studio was to develop new corporate architecture for the chain, which has already been rolled out in two Wienerwald branches in Munich.
