In construction, all new structures must be certified LEED Silver (LEED represents Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design as the standard for Green Building policies) or higher, and as of May 2015 UCLA has 23 LEED buildings and renovations completed on campus- eight Silver, 13 Gold, and two Platinum. Additionally, two projects received equivalent certification from UC - one at Gold Level and one at Platinum. Projects on their way include seven awaiting certification, seven in Construction phase and six in their design phase.

UCLA has achieved several awards for their green planning including a new research centre marked as the University of California's 100th certifiably green project, and UCLA's Public Affairs Building where the Facilities Management calculated down to the minute when everyone leaves the building for the day, thus saving over 40 hours of electricity very week. These are just a handful of the huge steps UCLA is taking towards a greener future.
