The work of two artists, centuries apart, are displayed showing their infatuation with the power of nature and captivation by its vastness and impossibility. Paterson’s work, exploring our relationship with the universe, is interspersed by Turner watercolours, selected by Paterson.

Bill Viola / Michelangelo
25 January – 31 March
Royal Academy

Bill Viola / Michelangelo

Video artist Bill Viola’s work asks us to consider the extremes of life. Working five centuries earlier than Viola, Michelangelo asked the viewer to consider those same physical and spiritual states, through grand frescoes and sculptures as well as delicate, meditative drawings.
