The 10 Best Public Toilet Designs of 2017

#10 : Kumutoto

Design: Studio Pacific Architecture

Location: Wellington, New Zealand

Kumutoto, in Wellington, New Zealand, may be one of the most unusual toilet designs on our list. Having previously been described as evoking an armour-plated insect or robotic dinosaur, this public toilet makes a strong style statement - but it has also been designed to be practical.

The designers, Studio Pacific Architecture, said that, "as well as taking into account practical considerations such as security, hygiene and vandalism, the brief was to create a structure with a sculptural form." They decided to create something that, in their own words, was "iconic, highly visible and unusual, [but also integrated well] into the visual and historical context of the surrounding precinct".
