Tampa International Airport starts main terminal upgrades

Tampa International Airport in Florida, US has started a $20 million makeover of its main terminal.

Construction will be carried out in phases. The first phase of the project will lead to revamp of the restrooms on all floors of the building along with creation of a waiting area for valet parking. The same phase will also create tourism kiosks at baggage claim, and a new waiting space dedicated to military members. New digital signs will also be installed as part of the phase. Phase I is due to be completed before the start of the Republican National Convention on 27 August 2011, as reported in the Tampa Bay Times.

The project will also offer a facelift to the remaining restrooms. The carpet adorning the ticket level will be substituted with tile. The waiting areas will also be equipped with more seating facilities following the overhaul. In addition, the transfer and ticket levels will incorporate upgraded lighting fixtures. All these improvements will be implemented after the completion of the Convention.
