Tallahassee Memorial Hospital breaks ground on new Emergency centre

Tallahassee Memorial Hospital in Florida, US has embarked on construction of a new off-campus Emergency centre.

The new facility, christened Tallahassee Memorial Emergency Centre-Northeast, will be located in the Metropolitan Centre near the intersection of I-10 and Thomasville Road. It will be designed by Clemons, Rutherford & Associates, in association with FreemanWhite, Incorporation. The facility will specialise in Geriatric and pediatric services.

Dimmed lighting, low-glare flooring, as well as stretchers with thicker mattresses will serve as the predominant design features of the new facility to enhance comfort level of the patients. In addition, the facility will be built to decrease impact on the environment and reap energy cost cuts.

The building will be a pre-cast structure highlighted by glass areas depicting the direction of entry and allowing views from the interior. There will be a separate entrance into the pediatric emergency waiting room. The upper level of the building will be fitted with wood-like screening elements to deflect light during the night for the encompassing neighborhoods. These screening elements will also reap energy savings by offering shade during the day.

The new centre is due to complete construction by May 2013.
