Soho Beach House in Miami revives historic Sovereign Hotel

The Soho Beach House, the new Art Deco hotel on the site of the historic Sovereign hotel in Miami, Florida, is on track to be unveiled in September 2010, featuring a blend of local history with luxurious modernity.

The Soho Beach House, designed by Miami-based architectural design practice Shulman + Associates, has involved renovation of the 1941-built Sovereign Hotel; a new rooftop spa; and a 15-story tower with wrapping balconies. The beach tower with an open structure encircled by balconies and metal screens is an alter ego to the historic hotel.

The hotel features 50 bedrooms, six tower suites, a screening snug, two pools, cabanas, beach and a Cecconi’s restaurant.

One of the distinctive features of the Soho Beach House is a ‘Cowshed Spa’. The space is designed to be a rustic area featuring private treatment rooms in individual wood cabins on the landscaped roof deck. Lower and upper pools are also featured. The upper pool is exposed through glass panels toward the garden, offering public and private spaces against a tropically-landscaped backdrop.
