SM unveils Sky Garden at SM City North Edsa mall in Philippines

SM Prime Holdings, the largest retail and mall operator in the Philippines has opened 'Sky Garden' at SM City North Edsa mall which boasts of an additional 35,000 square meters over the existing 425,000 square meters.

The long elevated curvilinear park-Sky Garden - located on the second floor of the mall's earlier parking lot - offers green space not only for the mall, but also for the city as a whole.

The green space is intended to act as a shield to the mall from the busy Edsa intersection. It is designed to serve as a living, organic link between the different components of the The Block, The City Center and The Annex.

It appears to be a floating green ribbon from a distance, featuring lush land and waterscapes. Its organic form complements the new wavy cladding of the mall.

The garden features several clusters of outdoor chairs offering calm rest spots to the shoppers amid the string of retail shops and specialty stores.

Sheltered walk-ways are constructed amid undulating lawns, ponds and trees, while tunnels of shops are sculpted out of the earth.

The notable features of Sky Garden are the roof garden, the sky dome, water features, and retail, dining and entertainment outlets.

The roof garden features about 55 species of plants, grass and trees. All these plant species are planted on a special type of garden soil which offers a lightweight effect on the structure. The garden has a special type of drainage system that allows it to conserve water.

The Sky Dome is a 1,000-seat performance area and will open for concerts and promotional activities.

The Sky Garden’s water features include two bubblers, a simulated river flowing at the center, and waterfalls at the edge of the second floor.

The Sky Garden’s ground level has vehicle parking space and a public-transportation terminal, where customers can access the Sky Garden via escalators and stairs.

SM City North EDSA is the first SM Supermall operated by SM Prime Holdings. The Sky Garden has been constructed as a part of the mall’s renovation project.
