SM Holdings opens SM Mall of Asia Arena in Philippines


Philippines-based SM Holdings has opened SM Mall of Asia Arena in Manila, Philippines designed by Arquitectonica.


The eye-shaped arena is an integral part of SM Mall of Asia and is likely to serve as the new home of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines and the National Collegiate Athletic Association. The all-season arena will host both national and international concerts and events.

SM Mall of Asia Arena has a total area of about 64,000 square meters. The six tier arena has a total capacity of 16,000 spectators, and boast potential for further expansion of capacity to reach 20,000. It features a full glass front resting on a slanted podium, which allows it to hold the large volume of the interior court within a vaulted space.

The arena houses 41 fully furnished exclusive corporate suites, which can accommodate between 16 to 26 people. The other facilities include press rooms, multimedia rooms, dressing rooms, and team dug-outs for sports events. The ground floor of the arena has a lounge.

The arena is equipped with projector and multimedia screen for presenting the images of the on-going event. The arena and the mall are enveloped with lush landscape, which creates a complete visual ensemble.
