Six Senses Douro Valley wins Best Achievement in Design in Virtuoso Best of the Best Awards
Six Senses Douro Valley in Lamego, Portugal was voted the winner of the Best Achievement in Design category in Virtuoso’s eagerly anticipated 2017 Best of the Best awards. The international travel company announced the winners at the 29th annual Virtuoso Travel Week conference in Vegas.
The 11th annual awards winners were voted for by Virtuoso travel members and announced during Virtuoso Travel Week's Hotels & Resorts Dinner that took place at the Bellagio Hotel last week.
There were several categories ranging from Best Bar to Hotel of the Year, but here at DesignCurial we just had to find out more about the winner of Best Achievement in Design.
So let us introduce you to Six Senses Douro Valley. Located in Portugal, this luxury hotel manages to emit glamour whilst maintaining its traditional country manor charm. Daintily perched on a slope overlooking the Douro Valley, Six Senses boasts some incredible views of the beautiful wine region’s rolling hills and river.
“What sets this resort apart is that it retains the charm and beauty of a large country manor set among rolling hills and vineyards. There’s a prevailing sense of quiet, calm and relaxation as soon as you enter,” said Linda Zelisko, Travel Experts, a Virtuoso Agency.
The 57- room resort may date back to the 19th-century, but is in fact equipped with everything you need for a relaxing stay. This includes a destination spa, two pools, and an impressive wine cellar and organic garden for its acclaimed Vale de Abraão Restaurant.
Designed by Clodagh Design, New York, the hotel makes the most of its breath taking surroundings. Minimalist detailing, coupled with Georgian antiques and Brazilian and Goan artifacts, combines indoors and outdoors and uniquely contrasts past and present. The design also showcases recycled local materials, which is part of Six Senses sustainability values.
