Orrefors and Volvo Cars collaborate to create crystal collection
A crystal makers and a car manufacturer may seem like an unlikely pairing, but Orrefors and Volvo Cars’ recent collaboration proves that it works.
One of Sweden’s most acclaimed designers, Lena Bergström, has joined forces with the acclaimed designers at Volvo Cars to create the Sarek handmade crystal glassware collection, bringing together the best of modern Scandinavian design.
Bergström, a successful designer in both textiles and glass, explained that she drew inspiration for the collection from her childhood:
“When I was growing up in the north of Sweden, we would go on walks in the woods and take food in small wooden boxes made of plaited birch bark, traditional to the area,” She said. “I used this distinctive diamond pattern as inspiration for the facets on these pieces.”
Bergström’s design was brought to life by Swedish glassmakers Orrefors. The finished product has a clarity and sharpness that reflects the precision of Volvo Cars’ design.
This is the second collection created by the two Swedish companies. The first being the creation of the crystal gear selector in Volvo Cars’ Twin Engine hybrid models.
Sarek will be released in September and available in selected stores, Volvo Cars’ retailers, at collection.volvocars.com and orrefors.com.
