Office Depot releases corporate citizenship report of 2009


Office Depot, a global provider of office products and services, announced the release of its 2009 Corporate Citizenship Report, which highlights the company’s commitment to diversity, environmental sustainability, community, and ethics around the world for the 2008 calendar year.


The Corporate Citizenship Report is an evolved version of Office Depot’s past community relations, environmental stewardship and sustainable value reports. For the third consecutive year, the report references guidelines established by the Global Reporting Initiative.

Office Depot increased sales of products from historically underutilized businesses (HUBs) to over half a billion dollars; achieved $85 million in tier one partner sales and an additional $70 million in internal procurement HUB spend; built its first LEED-Gold certified store in Texas; ended 2008 with more than 6,100 items with green attributes in its North American assortment; and reduced its facilities and transportation carbon footprint by 6%.

Office Depot has given $20.2 million in financial aid and in-kind donations, and assisted 1,689 charities through the National Backpack Program, and increased the number of factories inspected in the company’s social accountability program by 48.
