Office dA designs wave-inspired restaurant ‘BanQ’ in Massachusetts

The wave-themed walls and ceilings at Boston's BanQ, designed by US-based architecture and design practice Office dA, has created a unique setting for diners.

Located in the former Peeny Saving Bank building, ‘BanQ’ is opened by Boston restaurateurs Hemant Chowdhary and Mark Raab. The design of the restaurant has benefited from the soaring ceilings and intricate details of the Classical Revival building it's housed in.

The notable feature which makes the interior of the restaurant stand out is the wave-themed walls and ceilings, which feature wave carvings, creating a unique ambiance. Office dA has made use of unique pieces of three-quarter-inch birch plywood adhered together, creating a space which appears to puzzle onlookers. Each piece begins from one location and continues with the attached plywood piece to another location.

The dining spaces feature fabrication in warm woods and re-laminated bamboo. This enhances the striping elements already created in the roof and hence the whole space appears to be wave-inspired.
