Northside Medical Center to break ground for $20 million expansion project

ValleyCare Health System of Ohio will break ground for a $20 million expansion and renovation project at its Northside Medical Center in July 2013, which is touted as the largest infrastructure investment made at the hospital in 15 years.

The $20 million project will involve addition of a 30,000-square-foot tower that will expand the emergency department and create a new main entrance. The project will also modernise more than 28,000 square feet of the existing hospital.

Northside's Emergency Department will be upgraded as part of the project along with the addition of a designated Level III trauma centre. Twenty one private exam and trauma rooms will also be built to reduce noise and provide privacy to patients. It will also streamline surgeries.

The renovation project will add a new three-storey addition, and a first-floor lobby that will include registration, pre-admission testing, waiting rooms, a gift shop and an information centre. The addition will extend the hospital closer to the existing garage. Surgical services will be brought under one roof by moving outpatient surgery to the second floor adjacent to existing surgery suites.

Construction is expected to be complete in fourth quarter of 2014. The project is part of a five-year, $80 million capital commitment through ValleyCare's affiliation with Community Health Systems in October 2010.
