Nazareth's Abebe Bikila Stadium to receive makeover

The Abebe Bikila Stadium in Nazareth, Ethiopia, is set to embark on a ETB20 million ($1.14 million) makeover.

The project has been designed by Nazareth town administration's architects and will be developed by Oromia Water Works Enterprise. Work on the 30-year old facility will involve removal of the existing tribune seats. The tribune will be expanded from its current size of 12 x 8 metres to 20 x 50 metres following the facelift. The expanded tribune will possess a capacity to house a maximum of 2000 spectators.

New race tracks will be created in the Asela Stadium as part of the project. The revamped facility will further add new amenities to facilitate indoor games. Other renovation features include creation of a mixed-use field, shower rooms, dressing rooms, restrooms dedicated for VIPs, consulting rooms and sections for offering first aid facilities.

Construction is due for completion by March 2012.
