Modesto Junior College opens new Student Services Building
Modesto Junior College has opened the new $6.5 million Student Services Building in Modesto, California, US.
The facility has been designed by Perkins+Will. It consolidates current student services which were formerly scattered across the entire campus. The services include campus admissions, records, counseling, evaluations, classrooms, and additional student support.
The arms of the new structure cover a central bullpen area, portion of which is enclosed as a lobby within the building envelope whereas the other portion features an exterior courtyard. The building has been equipped with a canopy of custom perforated aluminum panels which protect the courtyard from the sun. The design of the canopy draws reference to leaves of the encompassing trees, thereby providing a dappled light effect which shades the entrance wall. The building along with the additional usable area of its courtyard spans over a total area of 26,000 square feet.
