Mccarran Airport in Nevada opens Terminal 3


McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas, Nevada has opened the Terminal 3 on 27 June 2012, which entailed an investment of $2.4 billion.


Constructed by Bechtel, the terminal will increase the passenger handling capacity of the airport from 48 million in 2007 to 53 million passengers per year. The new terminal, designed for both domestic and international passengers, spans 1.9 million square feet and includes 14 gates and baggage handling areas.

The terminal offers space for the airlines, retail spaces, restaurants, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, Transportation Safety Administration, and U.S. Customs and Border Protection. The terminal also has a new parking garage for approximately 6,000 cars.

The terminal 3 also has access to the other existing airport concourses, which allows passengers to get more quickly to and from both new and existing gates.

The salient features of the airport includes automated aircraft docking systems, which will assist pilots to precisely align aircraft with a passenger loading bridge, with minimal support from the ramp staff.

The new terminal features 1,100 LCDs and LED screens, which will provide dynamic signage that will assist passengers to navigate through the airport. The screens will also offer latest fight information and other information.
