Ireland gets new Hazelhatch train station

The new Hazelhatch rail station at Celbridge in Ireland saw an officially opening on May 8, 2009.

Inaugurated by Noel Dempsey, Ireland's transport minister, the station is the latest development in the Kildare Route Project (KRP). With the new station in place, commuters can now travel to and from Heuston Station within 15 minutes non-stop and in 23 minutes for trains stopping at Adamstown and other stations.

The new station maintains many internal and external architectural features of the old station. It features a purpose-built booking office and ticket hall designed by Irish Rail architects, a new footbridge, and lifts to facilitate mobility impaired commuters. The station also has new facilities for train drivers.

Jane Cregan, a spokesperson for Irish Rail, was reported stating that the delivery of the enlarged station is ahead of schedule by a few months. She however adds that the local councilors want many improvements in the facility.
