il Covo restaurant opens in Los Angeles

The il Covo restaurant, owned by restaurateur Sean MacPherson, has been opened in Los Angeles.

The restaurant, owned by restaurateur Sean MacPherson, is housed in a Mediterranean former four-plex apartment, built in 1920. The design of the new facility replicates a home and garden bearing a Mediterranean undertone.

The restaurant is adorned with wainscoted walls in dark mahogany. The ceilings of the building are hand-painted and are made of coffered wood. There are also horseshoe-shaped booths to facilitate intimate events. The facility also comprises wine bottles in niches which are illuminated from behind.

The building has been fitted with salvaged fireplaces bearing a look of antiquity and comprise andirons. There is a fireplace on the patio with a head of a copper bull which was rescued from New York’s Tavern on the Green. The facility also features a long bar space, sporting carved wood accents and stools with mohair tops, which leads to the outdoor patio. The transporting garden of the restaurant features a pair of the building's original leafy trees.

Salvaged Italian terracotta and marble makes up for the floors of the building while the alcoves are adorned in local vintage encaustic tile. The upper doors and windows are enclosed in balustrades made of wrought iron. The look of the facility is complemented by decorating the restaurant with various artistic pieces and objects from MacPherson's collection. It includes a photo showing Marcel Duchamp and author Eve Babitz playing chess in Pasadena, artwork of film director Jean Negulesco, as well as an Italian Bitossi lamp line of the 1960s.
