Front Studio redesigns McNally Jackson Cafe

New York-based Front Studio has recently completed designing the McNally Jackson Cafe’s renovation design.

The café is a part of the McNally Jackson Bookstore in Manhattan, which is one of the largest independent booksellers located at the Nolita neighborhood.

The renovation design has been conceptualized on the owner’s brief which stated that the café must be a place of reminiscence of literature. Thus, the design, created with the collaboration of the owners and the architects, features a connection between the café’s main purpose of providing relaxation and reading.

The new design features scattered books in the air that have actually been hung from the ceiling but appear as though they have frozen in the empty space. The café’s curved wall situated around the seating area has been covered in wallpaper made entirely of open spine books; whose texture adds a rippling effect of pages. The seating area is equipped with a series of folding single tables that resemble a folded book when closed. The menu, made of food related quotes is lit with the help of four light fixtures, each dedicated to the many editions of a singular book.
