DMD and G+ Gulla design first 'Red O' restaurant in Los Angeles

Celebrated American chef Rick will debut Red O restaurant in Los Angeles, California, designed by Dodd Mitchell Design (DMD) and G+ Gulla Jonsdottir Design in April 2010.

Rick Bayless is an American chef who specializes in traditional Mexican cuisine with modern interpretations. DMD and G+ Gulla Jonsdottir – design firms based in Los Angeles - will be responsible for the restaurant’s bold and dramatic decor.

The dining courtyard is distinct with two 14 feet chandeliers, handmade by Mexican artisans. Massive garage doors that open to Melrose Avenue on one side and the main dining room on the other are made of Bronze-tinted glass. The center of attraction of the main dining room is a 14 feet communal table made of solid walnut and bronze. A bar is also featured surrounded by handmade leather swings. Across the room, a sofa-style banquette sits against a wall adorned with over 400 antique brass temple bells. A semi-private dining room is tucked into another corner.

A glass tequila tunnel winds from the dining room to RED O's Tequila Lounge. The space incorporates a bar made from solid boulders and a palm tree surrounded by a small pool filled with floating candles. Most of the furniture and accents at the restaurant are custom made: for instance, a bird bath converted into a fire feature, and a column covered in linen roses.
