Denari designs Feniger's 'Street' restaurant in California

Los Angeles-based practice, Neil M. Denari Architects (NMDA), has designed celebrity chef Susan Feniger's first solo restaurant, STREET, in Los Angeles, California.

The 1,800 square feet eatery displays an abstract interplay of curved surfaces. They are featured in chocolate-stained poplar and Sriracha-sauce-red paint. The cladding of stained poplar has been used to define as well as decorate the space.

London-based artists, Su Huntley and Donna Muir, have done sketchy murals in the interior of the restaurant. The sketch lines stirs up the feeling of an urban street culture and are fancifully stylized to complement the architecture.

The walls and ceiling are clad in rich wood planks. The dining room has doubled in height in order to make the space more comfortable and cozy.

The staircase of the restaurant features red and orange color handrail, and this lends the space a splash of color.

Huntley and Muir’s drawings have been kept to the minimum in the indoors, and only in the courtyard, can a free reign of murals be observed. In the courtyard, chairs are arranged under 70-feet-tall palms, at tables surrounding a fire pit.

Street is Denari’s first restaurant design. Feniger wanted the restaurant to be more of an inviting and warm space, and did not want any theme-based interior. She wanted the place to be known by the food it offers.
