Cox Development to commence Ralph Allen Yard transformation

Cox Development Partners is scheduled to commence transformation work on the Ralph Allen Yard in Combe Down, Bath, which will deliver a new stone mining heritage centre and green homes.

The project involves development of an Interpretation Centre, which will accommodate a large exhibition/presentation/community space, a reception area, ancillary storage space, kitchen, as well as wc and archive space.

The heritage centre will be loaded with audio/visual facilities, which will enable it to be used for a variety of activities, such as information, entertainment, training and community activities. The new centre is likely to present stone production history of the area and provide local residents and community groups with a public meeting space.

The residential part of the development includes development of nine high quality environmentally sustainable homes, which will consist of four, three bedroom townhouses; four, three bedroom houses; and one, two bedroom mews apartment.

The new units will be zero carbon homes, which will be built to Level 5 of the Code for Sustainable Homes. The homes will feature various green attributes, which will include photovoltaic panels to generate electricity, a living green sedum roof and tripled glazed windows, all of which together will reduce carbon emissions.

The Homes and Communities Agency has granted funds for the project. The development forms last phase of HCA's £150 million ($235.96 million) Land Stabilisation project at Combe Down.
