Dominion Office Building, Moscow, Russia
Judges’ Comments
‘Taking a mundane typology and making it interesting especially with the public spaces’ Lyndon Neri
‘Just a stunning space, a visual beauty’ Phil Hutchinson
Located in Moscow’s Sharikopodshipnikovskaya Street, the Dominion Office Building is one of the first projects to be built for the growing creative and IT sectors in this primarily industrial and residential district in the southeast of the city. It is conceived as a series of vertically stacked plates off-set at each level with connected, curved elements.
Inside, a sculptural central atrium rises through the levels to bring natural light into the centre of the building. Balconies at each floor project into the atrium, while a series of staircases interconnect through the space. It has been designed as a shared space to encourage interaction and collaboration between workers and different disciplines in the building, with break-out spaces and coffee areas located on the balconies and a ground-floor restaurant linked to an outdoor terrace.
The office spaces are arranged within a system of standard rectilinear bays for small and expanding companies. A service core, located on the periphery of the atrium, provides a degree of privacy to the office spaces, with gaps to give some transparency and allow light to flood into the office spaces from the central shared atrium space
