Belk to renovate, expand its Decatur Mall fashion department store
Belk is set to carry out a $5 million upgrade and expansion of its fashion department store at Decatur Mall in Decatur, Alabama.
Work involves overhaul of the existing main store spanning 90,000 square feet and creation of the new Belk Home Store addition encompassing 13,000 square feet. The new home store addition will facilitate home merchandise and will be positioned adjacent to the mall entryway of the main store.
The revamped facility will be equipped with new décor, new floor, advanced display fixtures, and lighting systems which run low on energy consumption. There will also be substitution of the entrance canopies in its exterior portion following the makeover. Further, the store will overhaul all bathrooms, fitting rooms as well as other convenience spaces for customers.
The selling area of various units of the building will be expanded post refurbishment. The departments include ladies and men’s shoes, women’s, men’s and kids apparel, women’s handbags, accessories and cosmetics, and home merchandise. The project will also lead to expansion and upgrades to its juniors and dresses wing and creation of a new open-sell zone for fashion jewelry.
The home store construction is set to commence by March 2012. Upgrades to the main store is due to begin by April 2012 with the improved facility scheduled to reopen by October 2012.
