BAM to design new Terminal 3 complex at Tanzania airport

BAM International has secured a contract from the Tanzania Airports Authority to design and construct the new Terminal 3 complex including associated works at the Julius Nyerere International Airport (JNIA) in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

The design of the roof of the terminal building is inspired by the traditional sailing boats that can be found at the Dar es Salaam coast.

The contract value of phase 1 of the project is more than €130 million ($168 million). Work under Phase 1 involve the construction of the main terminal building, including parking lots, access roads, platforms, and a taxiway. The phase 2 will provide further capacity to facilitate six million annual passengers.

BAM International completed phase 2 of the renovation of the airport’s infrastructure in 2010, comprising the rehabilitation of all taxiways and the air ground lighting. Phase 1 was completed in 2006 by BAM International, which involved the rehabilitation of the main runway and the upgrading of the terminal 2 apron.

The new terminal is designed in collaboration with (NACO), Netherlands Airport Consultants for the anticipated growth of international air traffic, leaving the existing international Terminal 2 to cater for domestic flights.

BAM International will be executing the project in a joint venture with BAM Nuttall, while BAM Advies & Engineering is involved as one of the design-partners.
