Apex Medical Group, GE to develop $1 billion International Medical City in Salalah

Apex Medical Group, a subsidiary of Saudi-based Al Joaib Group, in partnership with GE will develop the $1 billion International Medical City (IMC) in Salalah, Dhofar, which is said to be the region's first transplant and rehabilitation centre.

Sprawling over 87,000 square metres of land, the project will be developed in three phases and offer three major clusters like healthcare complex, healthcare resort and education complex. Within the healthcare complex, it will feature a 530-bed multi-speciality hospital and three centres of excellence.

The first phase of the medical city, which is mainly the healthcare complex, will be opened in 2016. The subsequent two phases were opened in 2018 and 2020, respectively.

Construction work on the Medical City (IMC) in Salalah is expected to start in early 2014. Currently, both the companies are working on the preliminary design and field studies.
