Alpha Natural Resources opens new Bristol corporate headquarters
Alpha Natural Resources has opened its new corporate headquarters in Bristol, Virginia.
The facility, located on the 30-acre Sugar Hollow Business Complex site, has been designed by Thompson & Litton and developed by BurWil Construction Co. It covers an area of 130,000 square feet spread over five floors.
The building incorporates several green features such as extensive use of gas panels. Its design allows optimum natural light penetration helping reduce energy consumption. The facility also imbibes light harvesting systems throughout which have the capacity to automatically adjust depending on the daylight level in the room.
Use of low or zero-VOC paints, carpeting and furniture pieces further contribute to the office's sustainability. Other eco-friendly elements include installation of energy-saving windows, and sustainable rooftop gardens.
