The noho move™ chair: a chair that moves the way you do

noho is a direct-to-consumer brand that’s set out to make better furniture that improves the health of people, and the planet. We don’t rely on conventional thinking or materials, but instead create earth-friendly designs that help clean up our oceans, protect our environment and enrich our homes, our well-being and our everyday lives. ‘noho’ means ‘to sit, stay, dwell, live’ in New Zealand Māori.

The noho move™ chair, is the first product from noho, Designed in New Zealand by noho’s sister company Formway; designers of some of the worlds’ most comfortable chairs. noho move™ brings a new level of dynamic comfort and ergonomic support to the table, at home and in other shared environments where furniture solutions have been mostly static and unresponsive to how our bodies naturally move and our dynamic lives.

noho move is made in New Zealand from reclaimed fishing nets and end-of-life carpet diverted from landfills. noho is the first furniture brand in the world to use this unique and ocean-saving waste reclamation process with ECONYL® regenerated nylon.

Healthy comfort that doesn't cost our earth
The first of our ‘life-enriching’ products is the revolutionary noho move chair, which is designed to bring a new kind of comfort to everyday life.

Created from thousands of hours of research into how we live, the sustainably crafted chair has a patented auxetic mesh seat that flexes in 4 ways to offer support that cradles any body. Its revolutionary design ensures correct posture and dynamic ergonomic comfort.

Made in Aotearoa New Zealand from ECONYL—regenerated fishing nets and end of life carpet – our debut product, the transformational noho move™ chair, has your back. Flexible, versatile and dynamic, its revolutionary design ensures correct posture and healthy ergonomic comfort. Supporting modern living, from dining, to relaxing, to working from home.

Design insight
Our lives are busier than ever: we do more and wear more hats, and a lot of life happens around the ‘hub of the home’. So we need responsive, healthy, versatile furniture that does the same. Dining tables, for example, used to be just for dining—somewhere you’d sit for maybe 30 minutes, a couple of times a day. But increasingly, the dining table has become a place where we spend hours at a time: a makeshift office, a homework station, the place we stretch out a lazy Saturday morning with a second coffee or debrief the day’s events over wine.

Despite the evolution in the way we use modern dining chairs, they’ve never had (proper) ergonomic consideration. Not in the sense that office chairs have, anyway. And office chairs, while designed for many hours sitting, aren’t exactly stylish. Life at home during months of Covid-19 has brought this home like never before.

Award winning design
The noho move chair was designed to support this modern home life by delivering ergonomic flex and rock, and ultimate seating versatility. Its dynamic 'forward-tilt' and 'recline-flex' combine to deliver uniquely fluid motion and ergonomic support, intuitively responding to the sitter’s every activity and posture, eliminating pressure points, and improving the body's circulation.

To craft the noho move chair, noho partnered with Aquafil, whose proprietary process turns recovered fishing nets and end-of-use carpets into ECONYL regenerated nylon that makes up 75% of the chairs (the remainder being recycled post-industrial polypropylene. The brand also takes a “less-is-more approach” to packing, and all of its packaging materials are 100% recyclable.
