Kährs award-winning range includes over 140 wood floor designs, crafted from sustainable timber and featuring a nature-friendly construction. Designs span from traditional one-strip boards – with solvent-free lacquer or oil prefinishes - to on-trend colour-stained designs, with tactile finishing treatments for an authentic, aged look.
Commitment to the environment is reflected throughout Kährs production, from its local timber sourcing and replanting initiatives, to the conversion of waste timber to bio-fuel, which heats its Swedish factory and neighboring homes. Ash from the heating plant is then re-used as a nutrient-rich forest fertiliser.
During manufacturer, floors are constructed using a multi-layered method, based on the original 'parquet' design that was invented and patented by Kährs in 1941. As well as providing greater stability, it also uses resources in the most nature-friendly way. Floors also feature Kährs Woodloc® joint, for a fast glueless installation.
In addition to its extensive range of floors, crafted from European timber, Kährs also developed the world's first floor made from dual-certified FSC-Fairtrade wood - the most environmentally conscious and socially responsible wood floor in the world. Produced as part of the first FSC-Fairtrade sustainable small scale forestry and ecotourism project, in Chile's Curacautin Valley, the production supports the restoration of biodiversity in the forest and also aims to reduce poverty and restore the rights to the indigenous Mapuche and descendants of pioneer families.
