The architect had designed a glass atrium linking the old and new parts of the property. It was essential that the staircase, situated within the atrium, worked aesthetically with both.

    The Carnegie Library & Galleries in Dunfermline designed by Richard Murphy Architectsfeatures over 700 sq m of Junckers solid oak flooring. The original library building and anadjacent former bank, both grade B listed, have been extended and integrated to form aspectacular, award-winning space. A new museum, gallery space, café, shop and readingrooms are linked to the original library building by an ‘internal street’ connecting new andexisting spaces.
