Bathroom and bedroom space are cleverly combined in this scheme for the Knightsbridge apartment of a bathroom company executive

Being the CEO of a leading international bathroom company should mean having a beautiful bathroom at home and this London apartment does not disappoint. This is an open-plan bathroom for the master bedroom designed by Huw Williams of Obbard as part of a two-bedroom apartment in Cadogan Place, Knightsbridge.

The bespoke timber surround which encases the bath matches the floor in the bedroom which is laid with 240mmrustic oak plank. This casing was made by a joiner on site, creating a sculptural box that ‘grows’ out of the floor. The bathroom area is partially separated from the bedroom by a large 2.8mx 2.5m sliding door panel with the Duravit Sundeck bath sitting in the space between the two sides of the room.

Another focal point in the bathroom is the large frameless glass shower screen. The shower contains a ceiling mounted 400mmdiameterGrohe rain shower head, six Grohe body jets and hand shower. The cubicle also homes a ‘Mr. Steam’ unit.

The main contractor built all recesses, the bench seat and vanity unit in 24mmmarine ply on softwood battens. The ply was then coated with acrylic resin and fibre glass sheeting before being clad with 20mmthick technical stone slabs from DuPont Zodiac Quartz in mahogany brown, chalk white and concrete grey. The bathroom and shower/steam room walls and floors are also made from the same material.

Room with a view

The open plan en suite master bathroom features a 42” plasma TV and inset speakers.

Chic compromise

The bathroom is only partially separated from the master bedroom by a sliding door.

Twin set

Two Duravit Vero 600 x 470mm basins are overlooked by Duravit Fogo mirror cabinets with integrated lighting and Grohe Allure taps.

Cover story

The Duravit Sundeck bath benefits from an ingenious cover designed to keep the bath water warm and when folded, to serve as a comfortable headrest. Again, it features Grohe Allure taps.

Stone throne

The large shower and steam room holds a technical stone clad bench seat with slatted timber insert. A perimeter slot drain, recessed into stone clad floor, is set on the back wall.
